JAMIESON’S Irish Pub is a locally owned and operated pub-like restaurant, the likes of which owner Chris Smith felt was lacking in his hometown of Dartmouth and surrounding area. After returning home to Dartmouth in 1994 and 12 years in the ‘suit and tie’ world, Chris acted on his long simmering desire to open a unique neighborhood spot, opening JAMIESON’S in September 1999.
The concept for JAMIESON’S is to be a true neighborhood spot – a place where one can go at various times throughout the day for various reasons: a casual lunch with family, friends or business associates; a quiet afternoon tea; a pint of Guinness and a snack after a long day at the office; an afterwork coffee and a quick browse through one of our international papers or subscriptions; a light dinner before the movies; a full and relaxing dinner with out of town guests, including cocktails and aperitifs in our relaxing livingroom sections; or, enjoying fine live entertainment on a Saturday or Sunday evening as a compliment to one’s dining experience.
The original interior of JAMIESON’S was hand built, with owner Chris Smith doing a lot of the design, construction and finishing work himself, with a lot of help and input from friends and acquaintences. “My resources were quite limited so I had to be pretty creative and innovative in order to stretch a dollar”, says Smith. With some reliance on carpentry skills from his past, a passion for ‘functional antiques’, Smith was able to achieve his goal of a homey, rustic, comfortable and inviting atmosphere. In the fall of 2015, we did our first major renovations and refresh, maintaining the old world charm while introducing modern updates and touches. The main reason people come to JAMIESON’S however, is because of the food. Most of the menu items are from traditional Irish recipes, tested over the years in Ireland, as far south as Australia and the Royal York Hotel in Toronto. Our menu continues to evolve with our team of dedicated culinary personnel creating some truly outstanding dishes with flair, making just about everything from scratch while using the finest and freshest of ingredients..
