A LITTLE ABOUT US…
Stone Pizza opened in July of 2016 in Downtown Dartmouth. It seems like only yesterday that the key was turned at 79 Alderney Dr for the first time. The space, formally Hiltz’s Shoes and Caroline’s Bakery to name a few, would eventually become our contribution to the revitalization of Dartmouth’s Downtown Core.
When Allyson first told Andrew what she wanted to open an artisan pizza shop he was a little shocked, to say the least. There was really nothing else like it in all of HRM. If there’s one thing you should know about Allyson, it’s this —> She is one of those people who always has a crazy idea up her sleeve. Although it might be hard to picture in the very beginning, her ideas always seem to end up with the two of us having a lot of fun.
There was no question that Downtown Dartmouth was where Stone Pizza was meant to be; the business community here is made up of amazing locally owned, independent shops and restaurants and there is just something so special about it. We couldn’t think of a better place to be!
The day we opened was thrilling, and scary as hell all at the same time. The response from the community was incredible, and we were completely overwhelmed, both emotionally and logistically. The first several days were crazy, awesome, exhausting and a huge learning experience. Thankfully, we found some fantastic folks to join our team during our first week, and we’re super proud that one of those incredible people (Jessica) is still with us today. Since then, we have had amazing folks grace our shop and are very fortune to have worked with such lovely people over the years. We simply couldn’t have done without it them, and we continue to be very thankful for all of our wonderful staff, past and present.
Stone Pizza is the crazy little idea by a Dartmouth born-and-rasied mother of 2 who wanted to bring something different to the Downtown Dartmouth pizza scene. Thank you everyone who has been into the shop and tried our pizza. Dartmouth, we love you!

Allyson Crooks is the heart, soul and brains of Stone Pizza. She has built this unique pizza shop’s concept from scratch and plays a full time role in it’s day to day operation. Allyson lives in Dartmouth with her partner, Andrew Lockyer, who is “the voice” of the shop and manages its social media and marketing. Andrew is also a professional Fire Fighter with the Department of National Defense at CFB Halifax.
